I met his wife Karen and some of the stuff about 2 or 3 days before
Rootsweb was sold. I think it was in Providence (first time I was
in an NGS meeting). Quite interesting event. I remember I was
walking and then I saw Sylvie Tremblay (a well-known genealogist
of Quebec city, now with the Canadian genealogy center) who told me
Cyndi wanted to see me. I was very surprised, but anyway, in the
early years, everybody knew everybody else !
And if you check the early soc.roots postings for example, or the
people involved in the group that created the new soc.genealogy.*
hierarchy, you will find a lot of people that were also involved
in the Rootsweb community. I was myself the first list owner of a
mailing list (gen-ff) linked to a newsgroup (fr.rec.genealogie) for
the new generation of mailing lists (at that time, the link between
roots-l and soc.roots was stopped because there were too many
debates about splitting soc.roots).
