Our women - at least the army types - got weapons training from 1966
onwards. Although it was fondly hoped they would never actually need
it. I belonged to one of those part-time, after-hour groups which
mainly provided the army with training. Rioters, terrorists - you
name it we could supply. I can remember fairly early in the seventies
being sequestered in a flat with a lady cor****al and a sergeant (plus
one other navy male) (armed to the teeth) for the pongoes to come and
winkle out. An exciting way to spend a weekend. I recall killing the
brigadier in charge that weekend (having taken him hostage with a toy
waterpistol - after being captured and allegedly searched) and having
an enthusiastic pongo sniper open up on the pair of us. He did not
half get a dressing down from the Brigadier - the enthusiastic sniper
that was.
Anyway getting back to the point both women were fully combat trained
and they were both very good. Adept at secreting weaponry where male
searchers were loathe to look as well - at one stage they captured all
four of us and took us for interrogation. Everyone of us having a
thunderflash in our undergarments missed by the searchers. We had fun
blowing up the interrogators!

The secret ballot is a beautiful system that permits you to claim
you never voted for the guy.
