Not so.

In many other states, for instance, you are allowed to use lethal
force if you fear for your life or the life of others.

You could say THAT is all that is required but you would be wrong.

What is required is that you can persuade the police, a prosecutor, a
jury of your peers, or all of the above that your fear was reasonable
and justified.

First you can NEVER know what the land owner perceives, all you can
know is what the land owner says he perceived, which after shooting
two people might be a contrivance to excuse his violence reaction.

Secondly, it quite difficult to claim that a trespasser made you fear
for your life when they are found shot in the back from a distance of
some 15 feet, and witnesses say that they were exiting the property
when they got shot.

The third shot, raises interesting questions.   I have not seen yet
any discussion or evidence that explains why it was necessary.

Therefore, if Horn had a problem with trespassers all he had to do was
wait a few seconds and see them leave his property in a hurry.  He had
that choice, since he faced no clear and present danger.   Thieves,
repulsive as they are and deserving of hard time as they are, a vital
threat when fleeing they are not.
