Which is proving to be the BEST rush job ever! This is a HURRY HURRY
one due at the end of the month! I have been contracted to make two
71st Glasgow Highland Light Infantry jackets, circa 1808. Yummy scarlet
and buff Melton cloth, lacing up the front, all sorts of nice details,
and a fluffy 'frill' round the epaulettes... I got hold of a partial
pattern, and two coats to copy details from, and things are going well
so far: got one cut out this morning.
I'm taking lots of photos as I go, and will post pix as the project
progresses.
I had a long natter with Susan North at the V&A yesterday morning, and
she confirmed some great stitching details and finishes for me, so now I
can just get on and sew! :) For speed, much of the work will have to
be machine done, but I don't think anyone will care. About the only
place this will show will be the buttonholes, and those will be done
using the Husqvarna's Heirloom buttonhole that looks hand stitched until
you put it next to one that really was hand stitched! ;D
These are to replace two jackets that have served 10 years of hard
re-enactment work, and have stood in the rain at Corunna, and as a
result, look like they went through the battle there for real! The
replacements will look so smart until they too have been on campaign...
