****pping routes in 1874 Quebec to Liverpool

by "Donald Desaulniers" <donald.desaulniers@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 11, 2007 at 02:25 AM

Hello

I am doing research on a travel diary of one of my in-laws dating back to
1874 who sailed from Quebec City Canada to Liverpool UK on the S.S.
Samaritain (Allan Line).

Does anyone have information on the most likely route(s) taken by the S.S.
Samaritain (or similar ocean liners) in late 1874 during the trip from
Quebec to Liverpool. I am trying to identify a landmark, which the
passenger
describes as "Green Castle" as he observed it on the last day of the trip
to
Liverpool. According to the diary, this castle was "bombarded" by
Cromwell.
It may be Dunnotar Castle in Scotland, but I doubt if these ****ps, bound
for
Liverpool, would have sailed along the east coast of Scotland. Otherwise,
it
could be Caernarfon Castle or Beaumaris in North Wales. Then again could
it
be the of Dunluce castle?. Could any of these castles observed from aboard
a
stamer in 1874?

Your comments are welcome.

Best regards,

Don
