Mike, Captain Smith didn't go south on purpose.  He was about four miles
off 
the normal track because of the errors inherent in 1912 style navigation. 
Lord Mersey and his *****sors knew this but it's not spelled out in detail

in his re****t.  Mersey merely says his small change of course was not due
to 
ice warnings.
