I agree with everything that ProfLego wrote. What do lumberjacks, truck
drivers etc have to do with history (other than they look and behave like
Neanderthals)?
Also, the "history" channel is disguising programming on theories of
catastrophes.
Not only that, when they produce programs about historical events and
characters, their research is appalling with most of the information
included lacking historical accuracy.
I stopped watching the "history" channel last year and warn everybody
about
taking the history channel seriously, especially my students.
Students, some at the university level, watch it, and think that they are
watching valuable historically researched information. That is a terrible
harm that the money grabbing producers behind this "history" channel are
causing students.
As a historian I will do everything to spread the warning to my students
and
anyone that will listen.
I am taking the issue to the FCC and have mentioned it to my local
Congressman and Senator, who happened to be very good friends. Let's see
where this leads.
This type of programming is worse than ****ography. At least when you're
watching ****, you know what you are watching. With the "history" channel
programming insinuates itself into our living rooms masquerading as
something else. It is insulting, it is wrong and from an academic point of
view, terribly dangerous.
