Why?

Anyone with even an elementary knowledge of history knows that Stalin
was forced to sign that pact in order to give himself time to build up
his defences against the impending Nazi onslaught.

Just be thankful that Stalin did sign it. Without his brilliance in
engineering the Soviet Union's total destruction of the Nazis you may
well be speaking German right now.
