I think so. It's an interesting mix of smugness and insecurity. Part
of it, no doubt, is also a pathological need to compare "the South" (an
intellectual and cultural construct) to "the North" (even more
intellectual and less cultural, given greater Northern diversity and
the people and places that don't fit in either construct).
