Also, up until that time, Ewell had always been _under_ Jackson, whose
orders were precisely that - always saying _exactly_ what he wanted you to
do and where you were to do it. Lee's more easy-doing attitude, leaving
broadwer discretion to the subordinate, may have had its virtues, but it
leaft Ewell a bhit confused, being so different from what he was used to.
