Michael,

Your chief gripe about "Gods and Generals" seems to be that
Stonewall Jackson was shown sympathetically as being emotional
in front of others and overly pious. I don't know why you chose to
compare him to Erwin Rommel. It was another southerner,
General George Patton, who equaled Jackson for prayer time and
jerking tears at the battle front. General Grant also cried but he did
it privately, in his tent.

Ted Turner (another southerner) produced "Gettysburg" and "Gods &
Generals" in order to show the white South's point of view on slavery
and religion. The project was conceived as a trilogy. The third
motion
picture was to be titled "The Last Full Measure" and it was intended
to
show Lee's surrender.

Please know that the War killed off the finest and most courageous
sons
and daughters of the Confederacy. What was left in the era of post-
Lincoln
Reconstruction were the white officials and leaders who were
sycophant,
lazy, corrupt, cowardly and selfish. However, the war veterans of
both
nations eventually reconciled and united into one political
organization.
The Union and Confederate veterans joined together in the end. Our
republic was saved.

Cheers, David H
