West Point is closed.

One point occasionaly missed is that the Confederacy seemed to have a
brighter assortment of senior officers to work with. Until Lincoln
teamed Grant and Sherman, Union military leader****p was mediocre at
best.

An overlooked possibility loomed suring the war: some Union congressmen
wanted to close West Point, as it seemed to them to be a seedbed of
treaon. Their eforts failed, and West Point continued in operation,
producing well-qualified ofices. But:

What if, with the end of the Civil War, these people had succeeded in
closng down West Point. Anyone want to speculate on the effects down the
time stream? Would Eisenhower have been available? MacArthur? Pe****ng?
Patton?
