Whereas the CSA had such geniuses as Bragg,
Polk, Holmes, Beauregard...

One should note that Grant was an army commander
by spring 1862. Sherman had been an army commander,
but had to recover from a nervous breakdown.

Which was stupid. Of West Pointers from northern
states, only a handful went south. Of West Pointers
from southern states, only about half went south.
