The original "Gilligan" was supposed to be Jerry van Dyke, but he
dropped out for the smash hit "My Mother the Car". Even the name is
uncertain, whether Gilligan is the first or last name of Maynard
Krebs. The wiki site says Racquel Welch tried out for the, wait for
it, Mary Ann role.
