I'll agree- schools like VMI and The Citadel do a good job- but the best
instructors at those
schools were grads of West Point.

 Also, they were basically private schools that require the students to
pay. The Federal service academies were able to take anyone who had the
potentail, as they paid the students.

Since some of our best military leaders came from less=than-affluent
backgrounds, how many would have been passed over, and sent into
oblivion, history-wise?
