British win revolutionary war: then what?

Greetings and salutations.

Given the British pull off a victory in the revolutionary war. Let's
say the French stay out, and it's still a pretty protracted struggle.
What sort of political settlement is likely?

After several years of fighting, the British aren't going to be in a
particularly forgiving mood: OTOH, they have to make sure they aren't
setting things up for Round Two some years down the line.

The settlement in "For Want of A Nail" seems a bit too "nice", and if
IIRC the British tightened controls in Canada post-revolution rather
than giving the locals more say. But early 19th century logistics and
the demographics of the situation seem to make it impossible even in
the medium run for the British to maintain control without some local
cooperation: and the British upper cl***** are unlikely to be happy
with the notion of having to pay for a permanent (and large) army of
occupation.

It is of course possible that we get a vengeful early arrangement that
proves impractical and is soon moderated: if  there is a *French
Revolution, keeping the colonies from blowing up while the UK has to
keep a close eye on Europe will be a major impulse for
reconciliation.
