Would a mid-19th century USA have okayed a monarchy?
Now, we probably would not even notice. But way back then, people
rhetorically took pride in being part of the great republic, just as the
old Romans had. Assuming that it was not all empty bull****, is that not
an indication that many Americans would rather go to hell than live
under a monarch, even a constitutional monarch.
