Re: Abolition is overemphasized by modern historians

by raystwo@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Raymond Speer) Aug 27, 2008 at 08:53 PM

The reason neo-Confederates emphasize the supposed unim****tance of
slavery in American politics is that slavery is the quintessence of evil
in American political theory. It is the polar opposite of what a good
government should be.
From 1945 to 1992, Americans were ready to destroy the world in a very
literal sense than see its inhabitants enslaved by Commie gov'ts.
(Bertrand Russel understood the insanity: a living slave might yet be
freed when the tyrant dies tomorrow. But the "Kill A Commie for Christ"
Cold Warrior prescription was to slay the slaves along with their
owner. and in a world of the dead, victims and oppressor remain equally
dead.)

And the white supremists of the USA were not ever going to acknowledge
that the slavery that Whites imposed on Blacks was every bit as bad as
the Slavery the Commies planned for capitalists,

No neo-Confederate embraces Black equality but they are "cultured"
enough not to agree openly with Theodore Bilbo or Bull Connor. They
will not admit that Obama lost their vote when he was born with a brown
skin, but they will attribute some other reason for their choice never
to back Obama ---- I don't like his wife's college essay; nobody ever
helped me with a home purchase as Rezko helped Obama; I want a
President old enough to draw Social Security & etc etc & etc.

And when they talk about the American Civil War, the neo-Confederates
don't have the honesty to admit the South fought to keep Blacks in
chains for eternity.  The War was  over manufacturing over agriculture;
limited government against too-powerful governments; people with good
personalities and the bad people in the other section; constitutional
rules of interpretation or whatever. If the War was all about some
cramped, mean, trivial point --- well, maybe the winners won for nothing
beyond their own bigger battalions.

The Civil War was about slavery just as the strength behind John McCain
is that his complexion is white.
