Afghan clothing and Indian clothing similarities

by "2.7182818284590..." <tangent1.57@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 29, 2008 at 07:37 PM

I noticed that the two clothing styles are identical - esp. North
Indian clothing and Pashtuns. However, Indian/Pashtun clothing is
*NOT* so similar to Iranian clothes or Uzbekistani clothes.

The reasons for the similarities are obvious: Pashtuns/Afghanis ruled
India many times for many centuries.

Here are my questions on Indian stitched clothing:
1. One old poster on SCI mentioned that stitched clothing came from
Central Asian nomads - the Scythians (who were similar to Mongolian/
Huns). Stitched pants only came to Europe when the Huns came there
in
the 4th C. When was stitched clothing introduced to India and by
whom?

All the old Buddhist statues, Greek figures show non-stitched dhotis,
and lungis.

2. Who invented the salwar kameez - Afghanis, Iranians, or was it a
fusion between Indian and Iranian influence? The word "salwar
kameez"
is Farsi in origin. When was it first worn?
